Healthy Valentine's Day Treat

I'm Pretty excited Valentine's Day is near. Any good excuse to eat chocolate. One of my favorite healthy Valentine's Day treats is chocolate covered Clementines.  Now I know the traditional way is chocolate covered strawberries but to me this is my favorite sweet treat. In this cold season clementines are less expensive and super fresh.


I absolutely love chocolate! Can you tell?  Did you know that studies show how healthy chocolate is for you. 70% cocoa solids or higher is best, as it means less sugar and other non chocolate additives in there (the percentage refers to the cocoa solids meaning the stuff that comes from the bean – 100% is unsweetened chocolate). Research suggests that people who eat chocolate regularly tend to have a lower BMI. Chocolate can help lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease.  It contains healthy antioxidants and flavonoids, and has been shown to have a beneficial effect on cholesterol. Is that awesome!!

Chocolate Covered Clementines

Prep time:  5 mins

Total time:  5 mins


Ingredients

4 Clementines

4 ounces Chocolate (I like 70% dark chocolate)

Instructions

Peel the clementines and separate them into segments

Chop the chocolate

Put the chopped chocolate in a microwave safe bowl

Microwave the chocolate for about 45 seconds

Stir it really well

If it is not fully melted after a really good stir microwave for another 30 seconds

Stir it again, for me after stirring it really well after this zap in the microwave it was done, if yours isn’t then continue microwaving for 15 and stirring until it is melted

Dip the clementine segments into the chocolate

Refrigerate until the chocolate is set, or until you are ready to serve
